Those are the terms the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) — the largest peer review scientific process ever established — used to describe the probability that human activity is causing climate change.
The science couldn’t be more clear and Canadians need a response from their government.
In fact only 2% of Canadians believe that climate change is not happening.
One is entitled to wonder if our Prime Minister is within that 2%.
And yet in response to last week’s IPCC report, Stephen Harper’s Environment Minister took the opportunity to attack the Liberals for inaction and to claim the NDP climate proposals would hurt the economy. The Prime Minister said nothing.
Stephen Harper has made Canada‘s climate record the worst in the industrialized world. When he became Prime Minister, he canceled all climate programmes, repudiated our Kyoto targets, chose far weaker targets, legally withdrew from the Kyoto Protocol, and then failed to meet the weaker targets. We cannot afford a government operating outside global norms and ignoring the need for climate action.
Now is the time to act !
