They’re at it again. House Republicans are about to pass a bill that would create a nationwide ban on abortion after 20 weeks.1
The bill was drafted and sponsored by Representative Trent Franks, who said in a hearing on the bill, “The incidence of rape resulting in pregnancy are very low.”2 It’s not just Todd Akin who’s spouting medical nonsense anymore.
Lots of politicians and reporters are checking Twitter to gauge public reaction to this invasive legislation. We need to make sure we’re loud and clear to anyone who’s listening that we won’t forget or forgive this blatant assault on women’s health.
Since you’ve tweeted about important campaigns before, we’re hoping you can help again. It’s best if you write your own tweets (you can address them to @SpeakerBoehner and @GOPleader). And we’ll be following the hashtag #ItsNotJustAkin to retweet your reactions. But if you need ideas on what to tweet, here are a few examples:
We can’t let this outrageous intrusion into women’s health go un-answered. We have to make sure Republicans know we’re still paying attention and that every time they attack women, we’ll call them out. If we keep at it, they may eventually get the message.
Thanks for speaking out,
